Summer Camps

Camp CHAoS!

Since 2016, Calgary Apraxia has run its annual summer Camp CHAoS exclusively for children with Apraxia. The camps are un-parented and run by a dedicated team of Speech-Language Pathologists and experienced camp professionals. The camps are not structured to incorporate traditional speech therapy sessions, however, the children can exercise their speech abilities among peers that have similar communication challenges in our language-rich, play-based activities. Our camps are not about setting new speech goals or target words, they are about personal growth, fun and empowered socialization!

Eligibility

Our camps are reserved for children with apraxia, suspected apraxia, motor planning speech disorders, or suspected motor planning speech disorders.

Parents will need to provide a letter from the child’s Speech-Language Pathologist stating that the child has been diagnosed with one of the above-listed conditions.

In addition, children should meet the following criteria:

  • Meets age restrictions (as of the first day of camp)
  • Is toilet trained
  • Has typical mobility skills

For our age 3-4 camps, we open our programs up to children with severe speech sound delays (including articulation and phonological delays) as their primary communication difficulty. Children in this age group will still require a letter from their speech pathologist stating that the child has a severe speech sound delay or disorder as their primary communication challenge.
